I have many fond memories of family vacations to scenic Lake George, New York, a resort village nestled deep in the Adirondack mountains. There are few better ways of celebrating Independence Day, then heading west to explore the charming towns and villages of the Lake George Region, an area which offers a unique blend of rustic heritage and Gilded Age elegance.
First opening its doors in 1883, the Sagamore Resort has welcomed guests to the shores of Lake George's Bolton Landing for over a century. Poised on the southern end of Green Island, the hotel offers captivating views and year-round activities that embrace the natural splendor of the Adirondacks.
Dining lakeside at the Pavilion offers magnificent vistas of the lake along with artfully-prepared local cusine.

My favorite Tuckernuck dress was made for strolling the lush grounds of the Sagamore Hotel.
A trip to Lake George would not be complete without a scenic boat cruise on the Minne-Ha-Ha, an authentic steamboat built on the lake in 1969. The calliope on her top deck plays merrily, powered by steam from the boat's own boiler. The whistle blows. The bright red paddle wheel dips into the crystal clear waters of Lake George. All aboard!
